I opted for this i5 because I didn't think the gains I would get from overclocking a 2500k would be worth the price difference. It's comfortably handled my set-up (MSI 77A-G43 motherboard, 8GB DDR3, GTX 550 Ti 1GB graphics card) for a combination of gaming and multi-tasking. It copes with video editing absolutely fine too.

The new IvyBridge processors are coming out (if they aren't already) and you might find yourself able to pick up a bargain on a SandyBridge processor. For a solid, lasting quad-core processor, you could do worse than this.
