Please, note:
How much memory your Windows OS will recognize depends on which version of Windows you are running. 32-bit versions of Windows will see (and utilize) only 3GB or 3.5GB. To utilize more memory, install a 64-bit version of your OS.
A dual inline memory module (DIMM) consists of a number of memory components (usually black) that are attached to a printed circuit board (usually green). The gold pins on the bottom of the DIMM provide a connection between the module and a socket on a larger printed circuit board. The pins on the front and back of a DIMM are not connected to each other.
240-pin DIMMs are used to provide DDR2 SDRAM memory for desktop computers. DDR2 is a leading-edge generation of memory with an improved architecture that allows it to transmit data very fast.
Standard DDR2 240-pin DIMMs are available in DDR2 PC2-3200 SDRAM, DDR2 PC2-4200 SDRAM, DDR2 PC2-5300 SDRAM, and PC2-6400 SDRAM.
To use DDR2 memory, your system motherboard must have 240-pin DIMM slots and a DDR2-enabled chipset. A DDR2 SDRAM DIMM will not fit into a standard SDRAM DIMM socket or a DDR DIMM socket.

Review : New life into my old PC
This is exactly what I needed to give new life to my old PC. I have the Dell Dimension E521. I've had it for some time (since the beginning of Windows Vista). On it I've had 1GB of Ram right up until now! My PC would have to work overtime to run even a couple of programs at once. It would make the the tower noisy, programs would take ages to load, I'd have to restart my PC often because it used to freeze a lot etc. I never bothered to purchase new Ram (thought about it often) up until now. To counter the problems, I tended to wipe everything off my computer (after saving my files elsewhere) by reinstalling my copy of Windows every year or so. Lately though I've been using more software. My PC simply couldn't handle even a few tasks! The waiting time when using a PC (I'm sure you've experienced it) is very frustrating. I gave in and bought this. Installation is very easy. I kept my old Ram. I shifted it down in the slots and put the new ones in in the above two. I booted up my PC up...
